Hello,
my name is Ivonne and I live in Germany. I have a 18-year-old 2CV which I need to get repaired now due to rust and as I cannot at all afford to have this done in Germany, I´m looking for a cheaper alternative. Where do you have you 2CVs repaired? Are there places in Romania or Hungary you know about?
I greet you from Bavaria,
Ivonne

Hi,
We don't have in our country so much 2cv cars so I can say that the number of this kind of citroen is the same with the fingers from only one hand.We never have had a factory for 2cv car parts but for engine we have a car(Oltcit) and some of this model used the 652cc engine like 2cv's engine. For the body I haven't seen new parts for this car .
Good luck,

Hello Marian!
So only about four 2CVs in Romania?!
Maybe a 2CV-driver will read this too and let me know where they got the cars from then and how they fix the body without having parts. I was suprised to hear, that in Czech there are quite many 2CVs. They even have meetings. Actually I have just started to go to meetings a bit even though I got my duck since 15 years. On the first page of my homepage you can find a photo of a tchech duck I met in Nuremberg (germany). www.ivonne-radtke.de

I don't think it is a good ideea to repair your car in Romania. There are many mechanics that don't even know to repair dacia (our national car). Maybe the only thing that can be done is a paint job.
Also, the spare parts are imported from west, so I don't think they are cheaper.
Good luck with your car and give us a sign when you are in Romania.

Hello Ivonne
As my other colleagues said, 2CV is rare in Romania. On our forum there is only one owner, a lady owner who posted only few messages and a man who still search to buy a 2CV.
In our country there are only few places where you can have a decent repair on such an old car and considering that you will have to buy all the parts from outside the country, I think that the costs will be same or more that a repair made in your country and not with the same quality.
I think that would be better for you to find a garage in your country. I think that is a good idea to visit the web site of Jeroen Cant from Netherlands and contact him, I am sure that he will be able to help you more than us. This is the link to his page:

Good luck and keep us informed about the repairs progress.

Belive it or not, we make almost all the repairs on our cars. There are a few enthusiasts that really know what a Citroen is. I will give you a little example. I travelled over 120km just to recharged my spheres, because I don't trusted the mecanics here in Bucharest.
So, I think it is better for you and your car to repair it somewhere in west. May be it is more expensive, but the quality is also much higer. Because of luck of spares and knowledge, Romania is the country of improvisations, so many of our cars are far from the original. Trust me you don't want to hear what are the Romanian replacemnts for the original LHM.

The body job was just what I talking about when I said that there are only few places where you can have a good job.
The engine is not so difficult to overhaul but the spare parts are harder and harder to find for the 652cc engine and I am not sure if they are same as for the 2CV engine. That means that you can have your engine made for less money but you will have to bring the parts from outside Romania so the shipping costs will be higher and in the end you will pay more.

The thing that I want to get done is the body - the metal parts, de-rusted and painted.
Pals, if there's only about body lifting be serious, it couldn't be more expensive in Romania. Under the precondition that no spare part is needed and the paint is available, you could get a significatly lower price here.

First I think that parts will be needed, and second, if we consider just the labor, the price will be lower but the quality...
We have here a repair shop, Oldtimer Studio, it makes restorations on any old car but the prices are similar with these in western Europe.
All depends on how high are your expectations from this repair.

Thanks for your discussion. What needs to be done at my 2CV is the "metal". Parts are rusted. Here I would need to have them replaced with spare parts (which do not cost the world for a 2CV but still) and I heard that in Romania e.g. the mechanics would be able to fix up the old part. After that probably a new paint needs to be done. So it´s only the metal (the Blech). A wing for example would cost 200 Euro the front, 100 Euro the back. I also already have 3 "wings" from ebay but I do not know how their condition is.
The labor is the expensive thing over here. If a working hour costs around 30 Euro you can easily count how much 100 hours cost which is the least that will be needed.
Greetings from (at least today) sunny Bavaria,
Ivonne
