Citroen Technospace Concept Previews New Picasso MPV, Which We've Already Seen…



The “Picasso” nameplate has been around since 1999 and, until now, has sold close to 3 million units, proving to be a success for Citroen. Now the French carmaker has revealed a new concept for a compact MPV that will debut at the Geneva Auto Show next month.

Named Technospace, it foreshadows the shape of things to come for the new C4 Picasso that will be launched in the second half of the year; or shall we say reveals, as the production car looks identical to the concept in every detail save for the wheels.

How do we know? Well, Citroen has been circulating several undisguised cars around France these past few days, and they have been caught on camera…

Based on the Efficient Modular Platform 2 (EMP2), the concept is 4.43 long, 1.83 m wide and 1.61 m high. Citroen claims that it “ushers in a new era” due to its record CO2 emissions of just 98 g/km and its comfort-enhancing technologies that include a full-touch driver’s interface with a 12-inch HD screen.

French government may buy stake in GM partner PSA

The French government is weighing whether to purchase a stake in faltering GM partner PSA Peugeot Citroen, the budget minister revealed today.

"Let's be clear: this company cannot, must not disappear," Budget Minister Jerome Cahuzac said on RMC radio. "We'll have to do what we have to do to save this company."

Others within the government were quick to comment that taking a stake in PSA is a possibility but not in France’s immediate plans. An official at the French finance ministry said: "The priority for the group is to pursue its recovery plan, to strengthen its alliance with General Motors and to continue its development."

Earlier this week, PSA – the parent company of France’s Peugeot and Citroen brands – announced that it is marking down its automotive assets by 4.13 billion Euros ($5.53 billion) due to the deterioration of the European market. In 2012, new car sales in Europe fell 8.2 percent to about 12 million units, the lowest level since 1995.

To cope with the continuing market downturn, PSA is moving to cut 11,200 jobs and shut down a factory in Aulnay.

Last July, General Motors acquired a $125 million, seven percent share in PSA as part of an extensive partnership between the two companies.

Citroen DS3 tears the roof off


The Citroen DS3 Cabrio we first saw at the 2012 Paris Motor Show has launched in the UK, putting more Gallic-tinged, canvas-roofed convertible goodness on the automotive menu. Competing directly against cars like the Mini Cooper Convertible and Fiat 500C, Citroen believes it's got a winner because on top of the DS3's already popular chops the Cabrio maintains the five-seater space and the largest cargo area in the segment.

You can open and close the roof at up to 75 miles per hour – the Citroen release doesn't say whether that means all the way or to the intermediate, horizontal position. Buyers get seven exterior colors to select from, a roof in either black, Infinite Blue or Moondust Grey DS Monogramme, six interior decor styles, and nine wheel options.

There are three trims, the DSign with the 82-horsepower VTi engine is the backstop of the line at 15,045 pounds ($23,747 US) on-the-road, the DStyle with the 120-hp VTi for 17,425 pounds ($27,507 US) and the DSport with its 155-hp THP motor for 19,675 pounds ($31,201 US). OUTSIDE IN
DS3 Cabrio retains the hatchback's unique personality, with the same compact, dynamic proportions and bold styling choices from the 'floating' two-tone roof and 'shark fin' B-pillar to the sculpted front-end with its distinctive LED light signature.

Maintaining the DS line's extensive customisation levels, DS3 Cabrio is available in seven body colours with three colour-coordinated roof designs for a choice of fourteen combinations. There are nine different wheel styles, to let owners express their personality even further, and buyers can specify 16" or 17" alloys in a range of colours and designs.

Extensive chrome detailing, such as across the top of the boot lid and on the side rubbing strips, highlights the model's charismatic design, with dark tinted rear windows adding a further stylish touch.

At the rear, DS3 Cabrio boasts an eye-catching three-dimensional LED light signature. The all-new 3D LED tail-light technology was inspired by the designs on Citroen's Revolte and Survolt concept cars. The central part of the light is comprised of a rectangular set of 31 LEDs with semi-reflecting mirrors that reflect the light into 'infinity'. A 15-LED blade on the upper part of the light emphasises the 3D unit and acts as both side and brake lights. A chrome-finished DS logo, in an embossed black DS setting, is also incorporated into the design.

RAISE THE ROOF
One of DS3 Cabrio's standout features is its electric fully retractable, high quality canvas roof, which can be operated at speeds of up to 75mph. Unique in the segment, this important feature allows drivers to react to the weather without having to stop or slow down - even when they are on the motorway.

A button on the overhead console controls the roof to three positions - intermediate, horizontal and total - with the roof fully opening or closing in just 16 seconds. Even in the horizontal setting, rear passengers get a completely clear view overhead.

The roof is available in three designs - Black, Infinite Blue and Moondust Grey DS Monogramme. The sophisticated Infinite Blue canvas comprises delicate hues of blue and violet. The visual effect is created by a weave of three different coloured threads, one of which is shiny, with each thread reacting differently to changes in light conditions. Referencing products from luxury goods manufacturers, the DS logo featured on the Monogramme canvas roof is a subtle design achieved by contrasting two 'Jacquard' grey tones with a Moondust Grey base.

INSIDE OUT
Inside, DS3 Cabrio offers a distinctive and sophisticated cabin for both the driver and passengers. There is white LED ambient lighting around the ceiling console and white lights in the instrument cluster. The high quality soft-top material delivers standard-setting soundproofing comparable to DS3 hatchback, with some of the best acoustic insulation against road noise and the elements in its class. When the roof is open, an aerodynamic front deflector provides optimum acoustic comfort by deflecting air currents and preventing air buffeting.

All-new upholstery choices are available, including Granite Blue leather. The dĂŠcor on the dashboard strip, air vent surrounds and gear knob are colour-coded to the body paint and soft-top. CRÉATIVE TECHNOLOGIE ONBOARD
DS3 Cabrio inherits all the convenient technology of the hatchback, including Citroen's integrated satellite navigation system, eMyWay, which features a high-resolution 7-inch colour widescreen, Europe-wide navigation and Bluetooth® and USB connectivity.

Rear parking sensors are standard across the range, providing added reassurance when parking with the roof down. For added occupant comfort, whatever the weather, automatic digital air conditioning is also available.

A CLASS APART
At 3.95m long, 1.71m wide and 1.46m high, DS3 Cabrio offers virtually the same amount of occupant space as DS3 hatchback and even retains the 60/40 split-folding rear bench. Oh, (Big) Brother: Citroen C1 the First Car to be Fitted with Standard Insurance ‘Black Box’



See the young lady leaning towards the new Citroen C1 Connexion Edition in the pictures? That big smile on her face isn't because the uncomfortable photo session is coming to an end, but because she just learned that Citroen is the first manufacturer in the UK to offer a ‘black box’ solution as standard on a new car.

And what is this "black box"? Well, Citroen doesn't really divulge a lot of details, but just like the devices of the same name used in airplanes, the telematics Black Box in the Citroen will collect and store certain driving data and habits, which will then be utilized by insurance companies to increase, retain or lower your rates.

Citroen UK explained in a press statement:

"The Smartnav system, provided by Trafficmaster, allows Citroen to offer free insurance for the first year of ownership to all eligible drivers from 19 - 75 years of age when the car is funded with Elect 3 or Elect 4 finance. This new initiative from Citroen means younger drivers can now drive off in a new Citroen C1 1.0i 68 manual 3-door Connexion for just £109 per month plus deposit on Elect 3 finance - complete with free insurance."

"The Citroen insurance included in this offer is free for qualifying young drivers subject to two years No Claims Discount (NCD). Thanks to the fitment of the telematics unit, Citroen is also able to offer heavily discounted cover to drivers with zero or just one year’s NCD. For example a 19 year old with no NCD can insure a new C1 Connexion with Citroen Insurance for just £950."

"Importantly, renewal premiums will be based on the driving behaviour over the first 12 months of ownership. This means that, regardless of the age of the named individuals on the policy, good driving habits will be rewarded with lower insurance premiums in subsequent years."

Citroen DS4 and DS5 set to debut next week

It’s confirmed – as speculated on Monday, Naza Euro Motors has announced that it will be unveiling the Citroen DS4 and DS5 in conjunction with the opening of its Citroen Glenmarie 3S facility next Tuesday.

The two Different Spirit models are the first Citroens to be introduced by NEM following its appointment as the official distributor for the brand here, and both vehicles will be petrol versions.

The DS5 variant arriving here will be a THP 156 version, the Prince 1.6 litre twin-scroll turbo mill offering the by-now familiar 156 hp and 240 Nm of torque, paired to a six-speed automatic transmission.

Meanwhile, the DS4 will also be a 1.6 litre job, with 163 hp and 240 Nm for output numbers, again with a six-speeder auto gearbox. As in the case of the 408 Turbo, the increased output is likely the result of a revised turbo, changes to the ECU mapping and reworked pistons in the EP6CDTM.

Both cars will be showcased at the exclusive DS Salon housed in the Citroen Glenmarie facility. We’ll have more on the cars on launch day.

Facelifted Citroen C5 arrives at the Dealer in China

The facelifted Citroen C5 will be launched on the Chinese car market on March 1 and the first vehicles have arrived at Citroen dealers in China. The facelift included a new grille, new head lights, new bumpers, new rear lights and an updated interior.

The grille, more fuzzy than before with more lines and extra chrome. The Citroen C5 is made in China by the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture. The old engines will all continue: 2.0, 2.3 and a 3.0 V6, the rumored 1.6 turbo has been delayed. Price for the facelifted Citroen C5 will range from 175.900 yuan to 290.000 yuan.

Chrome bar grew bigger and moved down from trunk lid to bumper.

The Citroen C5 is based on the same platform as the Peugeot 508 which is made in China as well.

This is the new dash. New higher-quality materials and a redesigned center console. But! No flat screen. Spy shots, and Citroens leaked officials pics, clearly showed a new TFT screen on top of mentioned console. We therefore expected all C-fives would get the screen, but that appears not to be true. Not a good move, Chinese car buyers expect a 175.000 yuan car to come with a screen these days, even 50.000 yuan Chery’s don’t come without.

Peugeot board approves deal with Dongfeng

It looks more certain by the day that a Chinese state owned automaker will buy a major stake in a major active European automaker for the first time. The giant Dongfeng Motor conglomerate wants the ailing French car company PSA Peugeot Citroen, and all signs say they will get it soon.

PSA Peugeot Citroen’s board has approved a plan for an alliance with Dongfeng in which the Chinese carmaker and the French state would buy large minority stakes at a 40 percent discount to Peugeot’s current share price, a source familiar with the matter said.

The board agreed to enter final negotiations on a 3.5 billion euro ($4.8 billion) share issue that would see France and Dongfeng Motor Group take matching 20 percent holdings, the source said on Wednesday, speaking on condition of anonymity.

The capital increase would be priced at below 7 euros per share, and perhaps as low as a 6.85 euro indicative offer from Dongfeng, the source said. Peugeot’s shares closed at 11.50 euros on Wednesday.

A spokesman for Peugeot declined to comment on the alliance talks. Dongfeng officials could not be reached after hours in Wuhan, China. The French government also declined to comment.

Peugeot, one of the carmakers worst hit by the European market slump, is cutting jobs and plant capacity to try to halt losses within two years.

The two companies have been in talks for months to extend cooperation to other Asian countries after a multibillion-euro share issue in which Dongfeng and the French government would acquire significant stakes, sources have said.

The Financial Times reported they plan to transfer some Peugeot technologies to Dongfeng while targeting new markets in southeast Asia.

The hefty discount on the proposed deal, approved by Peugeot’s board on Tuesday, reflects worsening conditions and currency headwinds since the company pledged to halve its cash burn to 1.5 billion euros this year, the source said.

Under its outline terms, Dongfeng and the French state would each hold about 20 percent of Peugeot after a reserved share sale to the French state and Dongfeng and accompanying rights issue for existing shareholders.

The founding Peugeot family would lose control as its stake was diluted from 25 percent to 15 percent even after acquiring some new stock in the rights issue, the source said.

The effect would be even more dilutive for 7 percent-shareholder General Motors or any other existing investors that turn down the chance to buy new shares. Peugeot hopes to conclude the deal in January or February, according to the source.

In a move that may help secure the new funding from Dongfeng, Peugeot last week named former Renault No 2 Carlos Tavares as its next chief executive.

Citroen Prices New Seven-Seater Grand Picasso for UK Market

The roomier variant of Citroen’s new C4 Picasso MPV, the C4 Grand Picasso, has just received its official pricing information for the UK. It starts at £19,200 and rises to £27,855, promising prospective owners a “best-in-class combination of versatility, cabin space & accessibility.”

Built on the same new EMP2 platform that also underpins the smaller Picasso and the all-new Peugeot 308, it too is significantly lighter than its predecessor – the manufacturer claims the number is 110 kg (240 lbs), but that’s probably at one end of the extreme with none of the extra weight-adding gadgets specified.

Despite being a fairly big car, it promises excellent maneuverability in town thanks to the shortest overhangs in its class. At the front, it’s 11.6 cm (4.6 in) shorter than before, yet sports a wheelbase extended by roughly the same margin.

Unique features over the five-seater model include a very different side profile, altered front fascia and 3D effect rear lights and a different-design wrap-around tailgate. The integrated roof rails are a nice touch too.

The cabin comes with the exact same uncluttered design that looks modern and promises to be functional too – we’ve heard that the touchscreen unit they fit to higher-spec models is not the most responsive in the world, but that will probably be improved in time.

Access to the rearmost row is said to be best in class and each individual chair can be folded into the floor – with both it and the second row folded there are 2,181 liters of usable space that can be accessed through the widest-opening boot in its class, says Citroen.

Engines are carried over from the smaller Picasso. Now, despite the lower weight of the model, I think the e-HDI 90 variant is not the one to go for, even if its claimed economy figure when coupled to the automated manual (ETG6) gearbox is 74.3 mpg. The more potent e-HDI 115 returns a 70.6 mpg, but you’ll much more likely to get closer to it as you won’t be continuously shifting gears to access the (still) narrow torque band of the aging fixed-vane turbo 1.6-liter HDi diesel, an engine that chokes on its own particulate filter anyway…

Petrol-powered models are also available and the VTi 120 with a manual gearbox makes up the bottom of the range. Check out the full list of prices and gallery below.

  • 07.05.2021 - Ca urmare a unor update-uri efectuate pe serverul de gazduire in 5 februarie 2021, Forumul clubcitroen.ro a suferit niste probleme de compatibilitate cu noul sistem de operare. Din acest motiv, astazi a fost migrat pe un VPS nou. Forumul functioneaza acum in parametri normali. Nu a fost sesizata nici o pierdere de date.
