http://www.just-auto.com/news/citroen-t ... 19907.aspx

Citroen is planning to re-enter South Korea in April with its DS3 models, according to local distributor Hanbul Motors.

PSA pulled the brand out of Korea 10 years ago but showed the DS3 at the 2011 Seoul motor show and initially planned to enter the local market by the end of last year.

Citroen vehicles were available in Korea during the 1990s and early 2000s, but imports were stopped in 2002 due to poor sales. The company now has greater hopes this time around, especially after the signing of the Korea-EU free trade agreement.

Asia is a priority market for Citroen. Hanbul, which is also the official importer of Peugeot vehicles, said it had an exclusive deal with Citroen.

PSA Peugeot Citroen forms alliance with GM – platform sharing, joint purchasing and development on the cards

http://paultan.org/2012/03/01/psa-peuge ... the-cards/

PSA Peugeot Citroen and General Motors have formed an alliance. The move will see the US carmaker buy a 7% stake in PSA as part of a share issue by the French automaker. GM says it expects to spend from $400 million to $470 million on that.
“This partnership brings tremendous opportunity for our two companies. The alliance synergies, in addition to our independent plans, position GM for long-term sustainable profitability in Europe,” said GM CEO Dan Akerson. But “each company will continue to market and sell its vehicles independently and on a competitive basis,” the statement added.
The scope of the alliance includes the sharing of vehicle platforms, components and modules, and the creation of a global purchasing joint venture for the sourcing of commodities, components and other goods and services from suppliers with combined annual volumes of approximately $125 billion. Bigger buyer gets better deals, as always.
There is also talk on joint development. GM and PSA said the alliance will at first focus on small and midsize vehicles, MPVs and crossovers. The carmakers may also develop a new common platform for low emission vehicles, with the first model expected to debut in 2016.
Cost savings from the deal will be limited in the first two years, but will eventually amount to $2 billion annually, split equally, the companies said. The deal is expected to close and take effect by the second half of this year.
GM is certainly not new in linking up with other companies. The US carmaker had shares in Suzuki Motor Corp, Isuzu Motors and Subaru maker Fuji Heavy Industries before disposing off the stakes few years ago. In the same period, but in Europe, GM had to pay Fiat to end an unsuccessful alliance. They also flirted with Renault-Nissan before. GM’s Opel brand is not doing well at all in Europe, and this move has it in mind.
On the other hand, Peugeot has a better track record with other carmakers, including JVs to build commercial vans with Fiat and an engine partnership with BMW. PSA also makes diesel powertrains with Ford and sells Mitsubishi models in Europe with its own face and badge.

GM and PSA Peugeot-Citroen Officially Form an Alliance, Fiat Still Wants In

http://carscoop.blogspot.com/2012/02/gm ... ially.html

Well, that didn’t take long, did it? Only a week after the first report that General Motors and PSA Peugeot-Citroen were discussing a possible alliance in order to cut their costs and improve their performance in Europe and other regions, the two companies announced today that they have reached an agreement.
The global alliance between the world’s number one car manufacturer and Europe’s number two automotive group involves two main topics: the sharing of platforms, powertrains and modules, and a joint venture for the sourcing of US$125 billion worth of parts and services from suppliers.
GM will acquire a 7 percent stake in the French group, which is slightly higher than the 5 percent originally reported, but still enough to make it the second largest shareholder behind the Peugeot Family Group.
“This partnership brings tremendous opportunity for our two companies”, commented GM chairman and CEO Dan Akerson. “The alliance synergies, in addition to our independent plans, position GM for long-term sustainable profitability in Europe.”
Philippe Varin, chairman of the PSA Peugeot Citroen managing board, said: “This alliance is a tremendously exciting moment for both groups and this partnership is rich in its development potential.”
The agreement stipulates that the two groups will share select platforms, modules and components “on a worldwide basis” so as to achieve sizeable savings due to the economies of scale.
In fact, while they don’t expect significant cost savings in the first two years, the two automakers estimate that within five years, the equally-shared synergies will save them about US$2 billion annually.
The first models to be developed under the new agreement will be small and mid-size cars, MPVs and crossovers, with a common platform for a low-emission vehicle being under consideration. The first vehicle is expected to launch in 2016.
And that’s not all: Sergio Marchionne, CEO of the Fiat-Chrysler group, has had talks with both companies about possible tie-ups during the Detroit Motor Show and as reported by Detnews today, he's still interested in a collaboration with PSA Peugeot-Citroem
Now it seems that his company has been left out in the cold to face the hardships of the falling European market alone. Furthermore, the access to the U.S. and other markets, like China, where GM is dominant will now be available to the French and not the U.S-Italian group.
Marchionne is not one to give up so easily, though. And he already has a starting point: currently Fiat and Peugeot have a joint venture building light commercial vehicles. He can also count on the support of European leaders, such as German chancellor Angela Merkel, who want to deescalate the financial crisis that is storming the EU and ensure the future of the euro.
So, to sum it up: GM and PSA will form a global alliance, with the Americans relying on finding a way to save Opel and Vauxhall and the French on increasing their volumes, lowering costs and accessing new markets. Nevertheless, it may be not over yet, as Fiat still wants to play despite having a troubled history with GM…

GM buys 7% stake in PSA Peugeot Citroen, creates global platform-sharing alliance

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/02/29/gm-b ... -platform/

General Motors has finally made a move to help its ailing European operations by tying its fortunes on the continent with those of PSA Peugeot Citroen. The two automakers have agreed to a new global alliance in which GM will buy a seven-percent stake in PSA, thereby making it the European automaker's second largest shareholder behind the Peugeot family itself. The shares won't give GM any governance rights over PSA, and the two companies will remain competitors in Europe.

What the alliance will give each company is the ability to share vehicle platforms, components and modules, as well as stronger purchasing power for sourcing components, raw materials and other goods and services. They're combined annual purchasing volume together will be approximately $125 billion. The vehicle platforms most likely to be shared will be small and midsize passenger cars, MPVs and crossovers, with the first one arriving by 2016.

GM says that synergies resulting from the alliance will save approximately $2 billion annually within about five years, though critics argue the alliance doesn't address the main problem plaguing automakers in Europe: overcapacity. While the alliance does give a shot in the arm to both Opel, GM's European subsidiary, and Peugeot, analysts and investors alike still believe that plant closings and consolidations are the remedy required for Europe's struggling automakers. Full details in the press blast after the jump.

GM buys share in France’s PSA to create $125M global product alliance

http://www.leftlanenews.com/gm-buys-sha ... iance.html

General Motors will acquire a $125 million, 7 percent share in French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen that will serve as the impetus for a wide-ranging alliance, the two automakers announced today in New York City. The move, the automakers say, is designed to help stem losses both are incurring as a result of increased competition and a costly labor market.

The fruits of the alliance will eventually be visible to consumers around 2016 in shared subcompact, midsize and crossover/SUV platforms that the two automakers estimate will save a combined $2 billion annually within five years. GM is likely to look to PSA primarily for its small car architecture, which would be most beneficial to its operations outside of North American. PSA, meanwhile, has long struggled to offer competitive midsize cars and crossovers, meaning it will likely look to use GM’s Epsilon II midsize and Theta crossover architecture.

While some rumors have suggested that GM’s decision to acquire a share in PSA could signal an eventual takeover, GM CEO Dan Akerson indicated otherwise.
“This is an alliance, not a merger,” Akerson told journalists earlier today in a teleconference.
GM’s European operations are in the midst of their own reorganization, which Akerson says will continue. GM has leaned heavily on its money-losing German Opel unit for product direction, but its new tie-up with PSA will likely bolster those efforts rather than negatively affect them.
PSA, meanwhile, which operates French automakers Peugeot and Citroen, has also struggled to keep pace against Asian and German rivals in Europe. PSA has remained uncompetitive against arch rival Renault, which has a strong alliance with Japan’s Nissan. The new alliance is not said to affect some powertrain and engineering partnerships PSA has forged with Ford and Toyota.
GM will also gain access to PSA’s Gefco logistics division, which it says will help it better serve its sales and parts network in Europe and Russia.
A committee with an equal number of senior-level executives from both GM and PSA will oversee the alliance. GM’s Akerson and his PSA counterpart, Philippe Varin (both are pictured above), will remain at the helm of their companies.

Citroen DS5 Testers Meet the Original DS

Citroen may have re-energized its DS moniker through a brand-new lineup of cars, but few will disagree with us when we say that its fresh batch of DS products need a long way to go before they achieve the status and the respect that the original "DĂŠesse" (goddess) commands today.

But marketing is marketing and Citroen hopes that by showing off the original DS alongside its newer creations like DS5 can have a positive effect on buyers.

In a recent competition named the Citroen DS5 Star Experience, the French firm gave five lucky winners from the UK the opportunity to drive the DS5 ahead of its market launch in the South of France.
During the weekend-long test drive, the participants also had the chance to meet up with five perfectly restored examples of the DS. You can watch the video from the gathering right after the jump.

Spy Shots: new Citroen C4 sedan all-naked in China

Spy Shots from an all-naked Citroen C4 sedan in China, earlier on we saw the first pics of the new C4 hatchback. The facelifted C4, called c-Quatre in China, will be listed on the Chinese car market on March 25 and officially debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April. The Citroen C4/c-Quatre is made in China by the Dongfeng-PSA joint venture.

Biggest changes are up front with a new grill, new headlights and a new bumper. New car comes with much more chrome, Chinese car buyers like need that. Compare with current c-Quatre:

Engines: 1.6 and 2.0. Price starts at 97.800 yuan and ends at 149.000 yuan. Both engines will continue, price will be about the same.

First pic of the new car’s interior. Not very clear yet, note huge air vents above the center console. That will keep ya’ cool in Guangdong in summer!

Earlier spy shot from the rear.

GM stake in Peugeot will cost $423 million

http://www.autoblog.com/2012/03/07/gm-s ... 3-million/

General Motors wants to become the second-largest shareholder in PSA Peugeot Citroen, and the gears of a deal for seven percent of the French automaker are beginning to mesh. It cost General Motors $423 million to buy into PSA, and the companies will remain competitors despite lashing their rafts together.

Both automakers would like to net cost savings over the course of the initial 10-year term of the partnership by leveraging their collective purchasing power for better prices from suppliers and also sharing economies of scale. GM and PSA are also looking to create vehicles, powertrains and/or components together within the next four years. The two companies have already started work on developing a low-cost small car to sell in emerging markets, and GM is looking to hook up with Peugeot's Gefco logistics arm, as well.

Peugeot stock has been forced down in value by the company issuing new shares for General Motors to buy, facilitating the deal. Peugeot has also suspended paying a dividend this year to keep cash on hand, further upsetting shareholders and the market in general. Market watchers suspect that any cost savings may be slow in coming, and there's little detail of how GM and PSA intend to address both companies' overcapacity problem in Europe or how they intend to find compromises with the typically strong labor unions there, as well.

Still, the hopeful need only look to Renault-Nissan for an example of the potential upside. Of course, GM's deal with Fiat, which started in 2000 and ended with a $2 Billion payment in 2005, is a reminder of just one of the ways the bloom could fall off this rose.

GM, PSA seek very different outcomes from new alliance

http://www.leftlanenews.com/gm-psa-seek ... iance.html

The world’s largest automaker, General Motors, and French automaker PSA inked a $125 million deal at the close of February as part of a new global product alliance – but it appears the pair have a difference of opinion in regards to what they hope to get out of the deal.

If you were to ask GM executives what they were hoping to achieve through the agreement, they would explain that they are looking to end a long streak of losses from their European operations. But as Automotive News points out, their counterparts at PSA would tell you that the French automaker sees the tie-up as an opportunity to take advantage of GM’s global clout and increase sales and operations outside of Europe.
Both GM’s Opel and PSA (along with virtually every other automaker operating in Europe) realize that they simply have too much production capacity in the region due to a combination of overly aggressive labor contracts and a shrinking regional economy. Sadly, combining forces typically lends itself better to increased production, rather than diminished, but both automakers still see value for different reasons in the deal.
For example, GM execs point to the combined purchasing power for raw materials and parts as a single, larger entity as a source of future savings. Meanwhile, over at PSA, executives recently clarified to reporters when asked if the merger was between GM and PSA, or Opel and PSA, stating, “It’s very clear. It’s an alliance between PSA and GM — global.”
PSA’s comments are aligned with the company’s public goals to move two-thirds of all sales to markets outside of Europe by 2020, compared to just 42 percent so far in 2012.

Spy Shots: Citroen DS3 and DS5 testing in China

http://www.carnewschina.com/2012/03/13/ ... -in-china/

Spy shots from the Citroen DS3 and DS5 testing in China. Both cars will debut at the Beijing Auto Show and April and they will be listed on the Chinese car market that same month. The DS3 and DS5 will be imported into China, local production at the new Chang’an-PSA joint venture is at least one year away.

Last month we heard that Citroen couldn’t find dealers to sell its DS-range because dealers didn’t want to pay for the fancypancy showrooms Citroen demanded. Citroen denied the story only one day later and said the already had… 13 dealers, which is next to nothing, the should have at least ten in Beijing alone, Beijing has some 17 million inhabitants. How many dealers they have now is unknown.

The DS3 will be powered by a 1.3 with 94hp or a 1.6 with 118hp. The DS5 will be powered by a 1.6 turbo with 155 or 204hp. The diesel-electric Hybrid4 won’t make it to China because the Chinese government doesn’t like diesel-engine, no matter how hybrid.

GM seeks broader cooperation with PSA

http://www.leftlanenews.com/gm-seeks-br ... h-psa.html

A few weeks ago, General Motors and PSA Peugeot Citroen officially announced that they were going to start an alliance. At the time, both sides agreed that the collaboration would be limited to the common purchase of raw materials, and the co-development of certain technologies.

As it turns out, both companies are already exploring miscellaneous ways to get more out of the partnership. General Motors Chief Executive Dan Akerson said in an interview published in the Wall Street Journal that some of his company’s top executives had been asked to temporarily relocate to Europe in order to work closer with PSA.

Akerson indicated that the two partners were planning on beginning the joint-development of a supermini car next fall. The car will be launched in 2015 as a 2016 model, and it will primarily be aimed at the South American market, which is largely dominated by Fiat.

The new small car will give General Motors the opportunity to finally put to death the Chevrolet Celta (also sold as the Classic and the Chevy, among other names), an outdated compact car based on the second generation of the Opel Corsa that was first introduced in Europe about twenty years ago.

Akerson also mentioned that General Motors and PSA are mulling the development of a larger sedan, though no word was spoken about which markets it would be aimed at if it is given the green light.

Lastly, General Motors’ Chief Executive announced that the two companies will not cooperate in China. This is largely due to the fact that each one is already tied up in a partnership with a local company, and cooperating on models would create immense complications in the heavily-regulated Chinese market.

What is Citroen up to? French Carmaker Teases New DS Model

Citroen is being quite the tease today releasing two cropped and cunningly shaded pictures of a new model that will carry the DS badge.

"The future of the DS line is already taking shape at Citroen", reads the legend under the photo, and that's about all the French automaker is willing to share about its new car for the time being.
A closer look at some of the details revealed by the photos such as the winged mirrors suggests that this is either a concept or a perhaps a production ready study.

Some of the design elements on the car like the flat hood remind us of the Metropolis sedan concept shown in China in 2010; however, from the profile image it seems that this model may feature a five-door body style.
We'll update this story as soon as we receive more information.

PS - sa fie acesta noul DS 9 ???
